On an Ultra 5 with ATYFB, 2.6.10 is initialising the video with csync inverted. On power up the sequence is... OpenPROM appears, SILO prompt appears, Kernel is loaded, Screen goes blank and powers down Assuming a normal boot is occurring behind the scenes, waiting a few minutes for boot to complete, and then logging in (blindly) and issuing an fbset csync high restores the picture (although at 640x480). The forums at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=2010535 have more info. Infact it may be that arch's other than sparc are affected. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install 2.6.10 2.Boot 3. Actual Results: Screen goes blank and powers down Expected Results: let me see it booting. http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=2010535 http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=77495 may be related...
Jeremy any ideas? Mark, are you able to test 2.6.11-rc2?
I can confirm that 2.6.11-rc2 does the same.
There is patch from patch-2.6.11-rc4-bk7 that applies cleanly to 2.6.10 and corrects this on my ultra-5: http://www.kernel.org/diff/diffview.cgi?file=%2Fpub%2Flinux%2Fkernel%2Fv2.6%2Fsnapshots%2Fpatch-2.6.11-rc4-bk7.bz2;z=78
This issue seems to be resolved in 2.6.11-gentoo-r1
gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.11-r3 is now ~sparc, thanks.
