That's right, I'll clean up this old dependency ASAP.
Nevertheless, there is also a requirement on libxml, and gtk2

I have added the patch that does the trick in bootsplash-0.6.1-r7.

latest libconf-0.39_alpha just committed in the tree.

The applications have been removed from this ebuild, because they have nothing to do in it. They'll be rewritten as useful complete config tools at a latter point.
