Ever since updating to kernel 3.0 (currently 3.0.4), I experienced GUI freezes while opening large files; for example when copying a large file or watching a video (HD videos often exceed 4GB). The problem was most obvious in Firefox, where scrolling would get stuck every few seconds. After a lot of searching, I tracked the problem down and found a patch that has already been accepted upstream for the next kernel version (3.1) and fixes this regression: http://git.kernel.org/?p=linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git;a=patch;h=4508378b9523e22a2a0175d8bf64d932fb10a67d;hp=1af8efe965676ab30d6c8a5b1fccc9229f339a3b I have patched my kernel manually with it and it fixes the problem. Please consider adding it to the Gentoo patchset for the 3.0 series of the kernel. Reproducible: Always
Can you please find this patch here: https://github.com/torvalds/linux since kernel.org is down? I will add this to genpatches once you do.
