Description Wonko 2003-11-11 13:12:16 UTC
After upgrading from enlightenment-0.16.5-r4 to enlightenment-0.16.6, the nautilus root window's settings cannot be set any more (Alt+RMB), nor can the window be moved (Alt+LMB). The sticky state is forgotten, so in my case the window showed up on all of the multiple / virtual desktops. The position, however, is remembered, and as I have it moved a little down from the top, I was able to find a free desktop spot to access enlightenment's menu.

Not so reproduceable: Sometimes the nautilus root window appeared only on all virtual desktops of a single desktop, not on the other multiple desktops.
Sometimes the nautilus window was on top of all others, and could be put back only by pressing the right mouse button on the pager. Strange indeed.

Nautilus is version 2.4.0.

I downgraded to enlightenment-0.16.5-r4, now it's working as it should.

yeah, this is a known focus issue bug :)
Comment 2 Roger 2004-01-29 14:47:24 UTC
nautilus-2.4.1-r2
enlightenment-0.16.6

No problems here.

From your comments, it looks like you missed doing the following:

# /etc/init.d/xdm stop
# mv ~/.enlightenment ~/.enlightenment.old
# /etc/init.d/xdm start

However, I'm using the same ~/.enlightement here and I do not see the problem.

I do know what spanky is talking about the "focus bug", in which, you loose window focus (especially on mozilla if you have it full screen without a border -- you can't touch the url box with text until you've re-focused the mouse over another application gui to gain mouse focus). Maybe this is what wonko actually meant?

No, I did not know I had to remove the old ~/.enlightenment directory.

For the focus thing: The nautilus root window was the top window, covering all other applications, which could not be reached now. And moving the window, or accessing it's window menu, was not possible. So I had 3x3 desktops, all showing nautilus only, and no access to other apps.

did removing the old preference directory fix things ?
Comment 5 Wonko 2004-01-30 07:53:20 UTC
Sorry, I did not dare to test this yet. I have the flu, and I had some trouble the last time with epplets not working any more, so I kept using the older 0.16.5 version.
But I will probably try this in a few days. If you think this is importan, feel free to drop me an email, and I will try this as soon as I can.

nah, it's your bug, take time to test when you have it ;)

i personally only use e and not any other DE/WM so it doesnt affect me in the slightest

try out e-16.7_pre2 perhaps ?
Comment 8 Wonko 2004-05-13 18:59:21 UTC
What a conincidence, I just did this this morning. I still don't have the time to test, but accidentally emerged 0.16.6, which resulted in a mess, hundreds of epplets started. So while I was at it I also tried 0.16.6-9999 (crashed always soon) and 0.16.7_pre2. With my .enlightenment and .gnome* directories removed, it worked, and nautilus was not on the top level, covering everything else. I guess this is as it should be. I also could access nautilus' windows settings now.

But I could not change the sticky state, or move its position (which was possible with Alt-LMB with 0.16.5). So I got back to my old 0.16.5-r4 version. There I have nautilus on one of the screens/desktops only, not everywhere. That's how I like it.

I have a screenshot of my whole desktop at the link below, but beware it's huge, 3 desktops with 3 screens each. The nautilus screen is at middle left position.

i'd say try e-16.7_pre6 and if that fails file a bug at http://xcomputerman.com/bugs/
