Description Jochen Ehmen 2009-11-16 13:26:00 UTC
First: this is on a ~x86 system - not stable!

Building of app-office/openoffice-3.1.1 fails after upgrade of sys-devel/patch from sys-devel/patch-2.5.9-r1 to version sys-devel/patch-2.6
with message:

"...
Revert font mapping munging ...
test -n "" && /var/tmp/portage/app-office/openoffice-3.1.1/work/ooo/bin/gob --build-dir=/var/tmp/portage/app-office/openoffice-3.1.1/work/ooo/build/ooo310-m19 prepare || true
FLAGS=`/var/tmp/portage/app-office/openoffice-3.1.1/work/ooo/bin/applyflags /var/tmp/portage/app-office/openoffice-3.1.1/work/ooo/bin` ; \

Can't get patch version
make: *** [stamp/patch.apply] Error 255
..."

After some reading in the mentioned file I tried downgrading sys-devel/patch to the previous version - which made the build start normally.
(it is not yet finished as it will take a whole day usually)

Verified this by stopping the build and upgrading sys-devel/patch to sys-devel/patch-2.6 again - which again let the build fail.

This is my first bug report - I hope I got it right, please be patient if something is missing and ask for it ;)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge -av app-office/openoffice (version 3.1.1) on a fully up to date ~x86 system
- the build will fail with the above message ending in "Can't get patch version"
2.
- mask sys-devel/patch-2.6 by writing "=sys-devel/patch-2.6" to /etc/portage/package.mask
- rebuild sys-devel/patch which will now be at version sys-devel/patch-2.5.9-r1
3.
start the build again:
emerge -av app-office/openoffice
which will then start normally - not finished yet, as already said, but 1 hour into its work...

Actual Results:
building app-office/openoffice with the newest version of sys-devel/patch fails, while it will (probably) succeed when a previous version, such as sys-devel/patch-2.5.9-r1 specifically, is used.

Expected Results:
should build with sys-devel/patch-2.6

very probably only the check for the version of sys-devel/patch fails - not the utility itself

Same here on amd64
Comment 3 hirakendu 2009-11-18 01:49:59 UTC
Same bug here. Thanks for the resolution. (I thought the problem was due to the file "stamp/patch.apply" getting deleted, as seen in the log messages a few lines before the error, and got nothing to do with sys-devel/patch package.)
Comment 4 Andrew Evans 2009-11-19 00:56:35 UTC
Likewise for me (amd64 also). Downgrading to =sys-devel/patch-2.5.9-r1 fixed it.
Comment 5 Jochen Ehmen 2009-11-19 09:36:02 UTC
(In reply to comment #4)

I've just submitted this issue to openoffice.org too:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=107027
It may be better to be fixed there.
Comment 6 Jochen Ehmen 2009-11-20 13:22:52 UTC
The bug at openoffice.org
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=107027
just got closed without being resolved because it is not a problem with openoffice itself, but rather with the "ooo-build"
build wrapper.
Please see the third post in this thread at:
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-6065034.html#6065034
This is therefore not the right place too and you may close the bug - but I don't know where the right place is.
Somewhere at go-oo.org probably - but I did not find where.

Thanks anyway

Fixes patch version testing in ooo-build

Fixes the detection of patch version for 1-, 2-, and 3-part version numbers. Also fixes the version number test since it rejects 2.6.0 as less than 2.5.9.

This is now fixed in the tree, thanks especially to Anthony for providing a fix!
