Since I am the owner of an intel graphic chipset I had to move to a 2.6.31 kernel to get the latest drm fixes for intel. However, ndiswrapper does not compile with 2.6.31 kernel (https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=2807437&group_id=93482&atid=604450). I have tried using b43 driver without any luck. Then I started investigated the compilation issues. Attached you may find an e-build for ndiswrapper (1.55) which compiles on 2.6.31. Reproducible: Always
Created attachment 199935 [details] ebuild that compiles with 2.6.31-rc4
Created attachment 199936 [details, diff] patch to include cmpxchg8b during compilation

2.6.31 is has already been released and is in ~arch, and this is still not fixed - ndiswrapper doesn't build.
(In reply to comment #5) > 2.6.31 is has already been released and is in ~arch, and this is still not > fixed - ndiswrapper doesn't build. > Try the attached ebuild. That should work.
Thanks, I've used the patch previously and compiled ndiswrapper successfully. I was trying to say that this patch should be in portage tree (because kernel 2.6.31 already is).
Just wanted to confirm that ebuild w/ patch works w/ 2.6.31. Hopefully this'll be added to portage soon.

Just wondering what is stopping this patch from being sent to portage? It definitely works for 2.6.31 and 1.55, and it's been a few days since it's come out.
+*ndiswrapper-1.55-r1 (16 Sep 2009) + + 16 Sep 2009; Samuli Suominen <ssuominen@gentoo.org> + +ndiswrapper-1.55-r1.ebuild, +files/ndiswrapper-1.55-2.6.31.patch: + Fix building with Linux 2.6.31 wrt #280057. It could be that the revision bump isn't necessary but I've added it because I've got no clue about backwards compability of this patch. Only compile tested on 2.6.29. I want to emphatize that i'm not the maintainer... Piotr, do you still maintain this? A honest question, not trying to insult or anything. :)
This didn't work for me when I tried it. It failed with the same error the ebuild in portage fails with under a .31 kernel. I REALLY want to get this working, so let me know what I should post and I will get right to it.

What version of the ndiswrapper are you trying to compile. On what kernel version? Personaly I have ndiswrapper-1.55-r1 gentoo-sources-2.6.31 both from official portage tree
I reopened this bug since ndiswrapper needs update for kernel 2.6.33. I will attach a new e-build and a patch file. Some more info is to be found in #248450. Can somebody put it in the official tree? Thank you in advance, Octavian
Created attachment 216287 [details] ndiswrapper ebuild compiling with 2.6.33 minor modifications to compile with kernel 2.6.33. It has a strange requirement for IPW2200 in order to pull in CONFIG_WEXT_PRIV which is not user selectable. See Bug 248450.

Removing myself from CC. That said, this should have not been reopened, but a new bug should have been filed instead. For this, I'm ignoring any requests in this bug.

1.56 needs to be added to tree, bug 322313, solving this one too
fixed with 1.56
side comment: 1.56 does not compile with 2.6.35. Still need to write a bug upstream.
(In reply to comment #21) > side comment: 1.56 does not compile with 2.6.35. Still need to write a bug > upstream. > Bug has been already reported in ndiswrapper project. Try to comment there, maybe someone makes bugfix quicker...
adding self to CC.

Someone has added patch on ndiswrapper site http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3034422&group_id=93482&atid=604452 I tried to add patching to ebuild but ndiswrapper still doesn't compile. Perhaps some developers could take a look on that. Please reopen this bug. thanks!
