Description thomas 2009-03-18 14:26:12 UTC
When nxserver > 3.2 is installed, meaning these packages:
net-misc/nxclient-3.3.0.3
net-misc/nxnode-3.3.0.3
net-misc/nxserver-freeedition-3.3.0.8-r1

Then OpenOffice 3.0.0 does not work in an NX session started form a remote client. Calc will not open menus and Writer does not even start.

It works OK with these packages on the server:
net-misc/nxclient-3.2.0
net-misc/nxnode-3.2.0-r3
net-misc/nxserver-freeedition-3.2.0

Also installed:
x11-themes/gtk-engines-qtcurve-0.59.7
x11-themes/qtcurve-0.59.5

Comment 3 Bernard Cafarelli gentoo-dev 2009-03-20 13:38:37 UTC
Which kind of NX session do you run? A full KDE/gnome/other desktop session, or openoffice as standalone app?

If it's a full desktop session, can you start open office from a terminal, and check the error output?

There was a thread on the freenx mailing list about openoffice slowing then hanging a NX session, but nothing on a start failure. I'll try to reproduce that (openoffice from source seems to work fine, I'll emerge -bin to check)
Comment 4 thomas 2009-03-20 13:52:35 UTC
It is a full KDE desktop session. When I run "soffice" from the console, I see no error messages.
Comment 5 Bernard Cafarelli gentoo-dev 2009-03-23 17:08:29 UTC
I cannot test with stable server, as I hit the bug I spoke about (starting openoffice kills the entire NX session :/ ). Can you try with current ~arch versions? (they've been there for some time and can be stabled soon):
 nxclient-3.3.0.6
 nxnode-3.3.0.12
 nxserver-freeedition-3.3.0.14

Also, can you post the output of `strace soffice` (when it does not start at all)? Thanks
Comment 6 thomas 2009-03-23 17:54:28 UTC
Seems to work OK with current ~arch! :-)
Comment 7 Bernard Cafarelli gentoo-dev 2009-03-24 00:04:12 UTC
Thanks for the report! Changing bug to stable request.

Arches, please test and mark stable:
net-misc/nxclient-3.3.0.6
net-misc/nxnode-3.3.0.12
net-misc/nxserver-freeedition-3.3.0.14

These versions fix session stability problems with Firefox, OpenOffice, VMware, flickerings when updating the screen, and other bugfixes like running openoffice-bin apparently ;)
Comment 8 Markus Meier gentoo-dev 2009-04-04 15:10:04 UTC
amd64/x86 stable, all arches done.
