This version requires hal, the udev option was partially dropped. I don't like
this solution.

The patch you did? the requiring of hal? the dropping of udev?

The requiring of hal for such low level component.
The dropping of udev was done because the author did not know to deal with
unplug, but I found a solution for this.

Then I had some issues with fork()... solved and merged this too...
And when I had some issues with software suspend (threading) I gave up and
switched to openct.
I guess with some effort I can reintroduce the udev support and merge this to
upstream.

i agree this isn't good.
