I stumbled on that when I foolishly unmerged libselinux because it is masked in the 2008.0 profile. So it might be a good idea to warn other users about that. Now to my quickfix: The autoconf checks are in a M4 file which is generated by gnulib-tool from dev-libs/gnulib. Since there is no stable version of that in the tree and it isn't used by any ebuilds to my knowledge I'm assuming that it's okay to patch the generated file. The proposed patch works for me on x86 and amd64 with sys-apps/coreutils-6.10-r2 and also applies to the source code of 6.11 and 6.12.

How is the possibility of making your system unusable normal severity?
libselinux does not just magically show up on systems ... you have to manually install it
(In reply to comment #5) > libselinux does not just magically show up on systems ... you have to manually > install it > It got pulled in as a dep for something. Don't know if it was bad deps in that ebuild or not but people can have it installed without directly wanting it.

Don't know if it was bad deps in that > ebuild or not but people can have it installed without directly wanting it. > Also, removing libselinux makes several packages unusable (besides coreutils). The problem is that these packages can not be re-emerged: they fail with "can not find -lselinux" or similar error. coreutils can be re-emerged without problems, though. I don't recall the broken packages right now, but they are mostly related to gnome (gnome-control-center is one of them). I had to emerge the hard-marked libselinux in order to be able to use these packages again :S
When is this likely to be fixed in the main tree? As it is, portage tells people to remove libselinux since it's masked. When people do it they have a broken system. Looks like this bug has been around for over 3 months. That must make for a number of broken gentoos.
fixed in cvs.
