Description:   Opened: 2008-06-27 14:12 0000
These patches should be applied against the Gentopia ebuilds and will enable
PMU support for HAL on PPC machines, which is the proper way to get information
about AC status on these computers. I have it running on my iBook since some
months now and it works good in conjunction with kpowersave.

When compiled with the "laptop" USE-flag (currently masked for PPC), pm-utils
is installed which takes care of powersaving. The pm-utils patch disables the
dependency on sys-apps/vbetool and app-laptop/radeontool for PPC machines,
since these packages do not work here.

I would be glad to get some testing on more machines and feedback.

These look okay from the ppc side, Gentopia, what do you think?

------- Comment #4 From gringo 2008-08-08 09:05:19 0000 -------
thanks for the patches, both work for me. Laptop USE works here too ( or at
least gnome-power-manager does his job here).

thansk again !

We'd need some testing on PPC64 for this, too. Corsair, would you please give
it a try?

------- Comment #6 From Markus Rothe 2008-09-20 18:11:23 0000 -------
hal 0.5.11 is fucked on ppc64 anyways. this means the patch cannot be tested as
long as newer hal versions are broken. go ahead and apply it. the patches
cannot make the situation worse on ppc64 ^^

I'm also using newer hal versions on my mac mini (ppc32). I just did not get
around marking those versions ~ppc again. I.e. I'm cool with adding ~ppc to
hal-0.5.11-r1.

Please do this. I would like for net-misc/wicd to depend on pm-utils. compnerd
is non-responsive so take this as your 'ok' to doit. Thanks.

I am sorry - I thought I had replied to this bug already - please apply, none
of us have ppc/ppc64 machines in Gentopia, so if these work for you, as long as
they don't break on x86/amd64, feel free to do whatever you need on the ppc*
platforms.

------- Comment #9 From Christian Schmitt 2008-12-16 09:08:59 0000 -------
Ok, please add the patches to 0.5.11-r4, as it has already a PPC64 patch to
make it run on this arch. The HAL ebuild could need some more cleanup, but
that's probably another bug.
Please also remove the "laptop" USE mask for HAL.

------- Comment #10 From Christian Schmitt 2009-01-05 16:20:03 0000 -------
As the patches are no longer meant to be applied against gentopia and I got
feedback from devs that this is not clear on first sight, I decided to refile
the bug and split it into two parts: bug 253866, bug 253868
