Which autoconf version are you using? Could you please add your "emerge info"
output?

you didn't yet tell with autoconf and automake versions you are using.

------- Comment #4 From psk 2003-07-08 03:43:58 0000 -------
automake (GNU automake) 1.4-p6
autoconf (GNU Autoconf) 2.57

------- Comment #5 From Patrick Kursawe 2003-07-08 04:58:56 0000 -------
Could you please upgrade to the current stable versions of both packages and
retry?

------- Comment #6 From psk 2003-07-14 06:28:50 0000 -------
Hmmm, I'm not aerted by mail when you answer me, it's strange...
Could you give me version that you want me to try plz ?

------- Comment #7 From Patrick Kursawe 2003-07-14 06:37:05 0000 -------
Automake 1.7.2 and autoconf 2.57-r1 please.

------- Comment #8 From psk 2003-07-14 06:44:46 0000 -------
   The problem source was autoconf.
   It's working well 2.57-r1
Thx a lot for that !

------- Comment #9 From Patrick Kursawe 2003-07-14 07:15:53 0000 -------
Ok, made it depend on this version. Thanks for reporting.

this bug still exists for me (with the exact same error output, except that
src_compile fails on line 49, not 48). i have autoconf-2.57-r1 and
automake-1.7.5-r2 installed. here is the output of emerge info:
