Also is the (1.0-96xx series) covered by this driver? Or should that also have an ebuild. Reproducible: Always
Huh? This covers the older stuff only. This does not include any ebuild > 7xxx.
If x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.9755 exists in portage and this bug is for x11-drivers/nvidia-legacy-drivers-1.0.7185 what about the 1.0.96xx series? does gentoo support this tree? see: http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html
Please look at what is in the tree before asking such questions. The nvidia-drivers package supports every version above the 7xxx series.
nVidia now maintains 9631 version as "legacy" (see http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=81668) It could be a good thing to move it to nvidia-legacy-drivers to match the nVidia naming policy (just a suggestion) I think it can avoid misundestandings, since nvidia-drivers (nvidia meaning) seems to be only the last driver version ;) Regards,
I'm well aware of what NVIDIA upstream is doing and will not be moving the drivers so long as they do not have support for older hardware. Quite simply, NVIDIA need to really get their act together on this.

Regardless the tardiness of NV, I'd really like to see the version bump for the old legacy driver, as 1.0-7184 does not play nice with xorg-1.3 and kernel 2.6.21. So people running ~x86 with older cards, like myself (gf2mx), are currently restricted to singleheaded xorg setups (via the opensource nv driver).
Jan Simons : Actually, I'm on ~x86 and I have a geforce 2 mx too and I've been able to install the right driver of nvidia from portage with this trick : first in /etc/portage/package.mask : >=x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.9746-r1 x11-drivers/nvidia-legacy-drivers Then emerge =x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.9631-r1 Of course now nvidia is up to 9639 (I'm waiting for a version bump), but with 9631, direct rendering and tv-out are working fine with my 2.6.20 kernel.
(In reply to comment #8) > Then emerge =x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.9631-r1 > > Of course now nvidia is up to 9639 (I'm waiting for a version bump), but with > 9631, direct rendering and tv-out are working fine with my 2.6.20 kernel. I just tested and x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.9631-r1 builds against sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.21-r2 and modprobes ok. Therefore I'm optimistic, that Xorg-server-1.3 will work with this as well, but I still have to test this.
The 9631 driver doesn't support the Geforce 2 GTS though from my understanding. That creates a problem....
Brian Beardall : That is true, the Geforce 2 GTS creates problems with the 9631 because that graphic card is supported with the 71xx series or exactly 1.0-7185 from nvidia.com, or 7184 from portage : x11-drivers/nvidia-legacy-drivers-1.0.7184 (another version bump for that one would be nice) Reference : http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_32667.html
all nVidia drivers are moving to nvidia-drivers. This version is available as x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-1.0.7185. Please give it a test.
