The docs in the install guide say that, for metalog, "you can send metalog a USR1 signal to temporarily turn off this message buffering." How to send a USR1 signal isn't described, and googling only finds other confused people. It looks like the install docs author is just repeating what's in the metalog docs. Does a "USR1" signal even exist? ;) Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
The install does assume you have a working *nix knowledge..however a man signal would've pointed you to kill(1) which has all the info you need, no google needed:)
I don't work with metalog, but I think the commands are: killall -USR1 metalog killall -USR2 metalog If anyone can acknowledge this (plz check if it's indeed metalog and not meta-log or metalogd or anything else) I (or someone else) can add it to the docs.
I'll harras some ppl on #gentoo to know if the commands are valid :)
http://cvs.gentoo.org/~swift/gentoo-x86-install.html has the requested change. Could you please verify if it works for you and if it's clear enough?
The change is very clear to me. A nice little improvement. Thanks! -- Stephen
