Description david lee 2003-03-02 00:08:33 UTC
I believe there are a few errors on the install doc web page.

One is that mkfs.xfs is now mkxfs, however the new install doc does not show
this.

Also, there is no need to issue the command mkdir /mnt/gentoo for rc3, as the
directory is already created on the live cd.

One suggestion is to change the ext3 command to mkfs.ext3. I believe this will
be easier for users to understand and being that its just an alias, no harm is
done. Correct me if im wrong.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start the install using the ~40mb live cd
2. Read the web page located at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-x86-
install.xml
3.

I can confirm the same mkdir /mnt/gentoo error as well.

I concur.

I take the mkxfs comment back. There is no mkxfs or mkfs.xfs in the rc-3 install. This presents a problem to anyone who wants to use xfs. Me for example ;)

Maybe this shouldnt go in here, but couldnt we get the domain information and the hosts entries added through the net-setup script. Doesn't seem like it would be too hard to add? Just a thought. Maybe I should make a new bug entry for this? What you guys think?

Yup, this is crazy. No way to make an XFS file system - which is something I want to do, too!

Let's not forget this in rc4 or more importantly - the release.

Looks like it's back to rc2. However, that poses a problem - on one system rc2 won't find the RAID controller (3210s) so I was hoping to use rc3 to see if it would find the 3210S. However, if there is no XFS - that shoots that down.

Just to update this, the bug in the x86 documentation hasn't been update in 1.4_rc4 for the mkdir /mnt/gentoo command. The directory is already make upon LiveCD boot up.

mkfs.xfs is indeed not available on our LiveCD currently. The /mnt/gentoo dir is indeed already available.

http://cvs.gentoo.org/~swift/gentoo-x86-install.html contains a possible fix for it. Search for "7.2" and "xfs".

I've left the XFS-paragraphs (during kernelconfiguration) since some ppl will probably want to mount existing XFS partitions later on.

If approved by reviewing-committee, I'll add it to cvs.

I just received word that XFS is in the LiveCD. I'll interprete this bug only for "mkdir /mnt/gentoo" then.

Committed into cvs.
