Description:   Opened: 2007-01-06 08:55 0000
nautilus-2.16.3 crashes with dbus-1.0.2 when starting browsing windows smb
shares.
This occurs when fatal_warnings_on_check_failed in dbus-internals.c setting as
TRUE. I don't understand more technical details on this :( But i find a patch
from Debian distro to resolve this issue.

Reproducible: Always

01_no-fatal-warnings.patch

patch for dbus/dbus-internals.c

------- Comment #2 From Doug Goldstein 2007-01-20 03:55:44 0000 -------
That patch is not right at all. If a check fails, you want it to error out. Not
just warn and continue on like nothing happened.

On a related note, I use the same versions on a daily basis and it works fine.
It seems like whatever your SMB server (Windows or Samba) is doing something
wrong.

This patch was created in the middle of discussion. See this thread:
http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/hal/2007-January/006875.html

This is commit which adds this patch to debian:
http://lists.alioth.debian.org/pipermail/pkg-utopia-commits/2006-November/001205.html

One of possible workarounds is to disable debug USE flag for dbus. There are
other possible solutions, but I have not understood them yet. In any case I
think this bug is worth consideration and may be could be fixed by bumping new
hal version. (hal-0.5.8.1 was released in September. BTW. may be somebody knows
why this version is still not in the portage?)

------- Comment #4 From Rémi Cardona 2007-01-28 17:53:49 0000 -------
i'm not a big fan of disabling the debug useflag. It'd be nice to have a fix
that works with dbus's debug mode. But that's just imho, of course :)

As for hal-0.5.8.1, we've had it in the gnome overlay for over 2 months, and we
only got it to work properly this weekend (automounting was broken all this
time). Maybe we'll push it to portage, but it's _very_ unlikely, unless somehow
something else needs it desperately.

IIRC, steev was working on newer snapshots of hal with PolicyKit, and we'd like
0.5.9 to go directly to portage once it's released.

I don't care what Debian/Ubuntu do to their stuff. The patch is wrong. You
can't provide a working example that fails because I can not reproduce this and
I use Nautilus 2.16.3 HOURLY to browse smb shares.

Provide me with a legit test case. Or better yet, fix nautilus.
