During a "world" update on my desktop,

>>> Emerging (1 of 65) gnome-base/gnome-session-2.16.1 to /
[...]
 * Running autoheader ...                                              [ ok ]
 * Running automake --add-missing --copy ...                           [ !! ]
 * Failed Running automake !
 *
 * Include in your bugreport the contents of:
 *
 *   /var/tmp/portage/gnome-session-2.16.1/temp/automake-1530.out

...automake-1530.out shows:

***** automake *****

configure.in:4: version mismatch. This is Automake 1.10,
configure.in:4: but the definition used by this AM_INIT_AUTOMAKE
configure.in:4: comes from Automake 1.9.6. You should recreate
configure.in:4: aclocal.m4 with aclocal and run automake again.

I checked, and I have several versions of automake on my system:

mjinks@evil:~$ equery l automake
[ Searching for package 'automake' in all categories among: ]
 * installed packages
[I--] [  ] sys-devel/automake-1.4_p6 (1.4)
[I--] [  ] sys-devel/automake-1.5 (1.5)
[I--] [  ] sys-devel/automake-1.6.3 (1.6)
[I--] [  ] sys-devel/automake-1.7.9-r1 (1.7)
[I--] [  ] sys-devel/automake-1.8.5-r3 (1.8)
[I--] [  ] sys-devel/automake-1.9.6-r2 (1.9)
[I--] [  ] sys-devel/automake-1.10 (1.10)
[I--] [  ] sys-devel/automake-wrapper-3-r1 (0)

I don't really understand automake, does the package need to specify which
version it calls?

General info on my box:
