Are you using by any chance ieee80211-1.1.14-r1 ?

Sorry, it seems that the problem comes from ieee80211, upgrading to 1.1.15 without modifying ipw3945 freeze the kernel too *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 147546 ***
