Here's the rest of my original comment: I found this: http://www.gentoo-portage.com/gnome-base/gnome-vfs which suggests commenting out line 57 of /usr/portage/gnome-base/gnome-vfs/gnome-vfs-1.0.5-r4.ebuild. Line 57 of that file is this: aclocal -I /usr/share/aclocal/gnome-macros || die I created an ebuild in /usr/local/portage/gnome-base/gnome-vfs that was identical to the stock gnome-vfs ebuild except that my overlay version has line 57 commented out. This overlay builds and installs, but I'm wary of randomly disabling aclocal commands. The page I linked to above (on gentoo-portage.com) also suggests that gnome-vfs is missing the libpcre dependency, but I have libpcre installed (version 6.3, which could be the "wrong" version, I guess). i have committed a fix for this in cvs. you can find the ebuild here: http://dev.gentoo.org/~allanonjl/ebuilds/gnome-vfs-1.0.5-r4.ebuild if you do not wish to wait or sync again soon. thanks.
