libpng-1.2.12 just went stable in bug #138433. At least the newest stable
net-print/cups depends on <libpng-1.2.10.

137042  x11-misc/xvidcap-1.1.3-r4 doesn't compile w/ libpng-1.2.10 
137498  graphicsmagick fails to compile with libpng-1.2.10
137059  x11-misc/electricsheep-2.6.7 fails to compile

libpng-1.2.10 is not in stable but it has a security issue..

Same problem here, libpng-1.2.12 went stable but cups needs <1.2.10, I think
that >libpng-1.2.10 can't be stable until cups will be fixed.

well this is hopefully useful to add -- the simple solution of removing the
<1.2.10 limitation from the cups ebuild does not compile.  So this is going to
need a bit of work. :(

yes, _please_, b/c I was the reporter, I can't remove myself from the email
list, but my intention of the original bug was far away from participating on
the whole story of libpng.
