i managed to have a working ebuild for the latest version of linuxwacom 0.7.4-3 using gcc4.1.1, XOrg7.1 and a Volito2 tablet Anyway my kernel (2.6.16-r10) does NOT have a working module for my tablet (it is simply mute) and I wasn't able to make the ebuild build its own and install it the workaround was to compile the kernel module contained in linuxwacom tar by myself and copying it to the right module folder Please use my ebuild to have a ~arch version of linuxwacom in the tree. I've read this bug #107518 and, yes I'm sorry, I've added a (useless) "kernel" flag Hope this will help

Great !! It worked here in ~amd64 !!
is the xorg patch needed on 7.0 too?
(In reply to comment #5) > is the xorg patch needed on 7.0 too? > afaik, from version 0.7.4-2 linuxwacom support xorg 7 without patches. but I haven't tested it. please leave a feedback if it compiles successfully without the patch (and if the ebuild is working correctly) thank you
yes, it works with gentoo-sources-2.6.17-r4 (patched with the linuxwacom modules) and xorg-x11-7.0-r1. However, if I draw a very simple line with the brush in gimp-2.3.10, sometimes the cursor gets stuck and I can unlock it only by raising the pen. (doesn't happen when using the mouse).

I don't know if it is the issue. try switching to a 2.6.16 kernel and/or look for a solution of linuxwacom web site and mailing list
anyway, my gimp 2.3.10 don't even recognize my extended input device. so I look at this ebuild as a workaround, not as a final solution. better news will come when linuxwacom will officially support xorg-7.1
*** Bug 133938 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
As per the comment in bug #133938, I've marked it a duplicate of this one (since they cover the same topic). I'll have a look at this sometime on the weekend, as I need an updated driver to use my Graphire 4 on Linux. (And it works much better on Linux than Windows ;-)
It works great on my ~x86 box Xorg 7.1 and latest Kernel 2.6.17-r4 Notice that I had to reactivate input devices in gimp's preferences window. A big THANKS from France ;)
Created attachment 94143 [details, diff] linuxwacom-0.7.4_p3.ebuild.patch this patch is against linuxwacom-0.7.2, actually latest version in the tree. I removed gtk2 use flag and the actual selection of which additional program you get compiled is based on presence of gtk flag and which gtk version you have install. I also simplified tests for each useflags. I removed the kernel flag from the other proposed ebuild because, as the author said, it's useless and should be reworked with the linux-mod eclass. My patch doesn't cover kernel side because I don't have such a device. If someone is gonna step up for this, he should probably add a 'evdev' flag to the ebuild. please review, test and comment.
Added cleaned up ebuild and moved to x11-drivers.
please correct to ebuild concerning the following points : - tcltk -> tcl tk (split) - gtk gtk2 -> gtk (merge) as xorg-6.8 is still in the tree, can we keep support for it until it totally vanishes out ?
