Description:   Opened: 2006-06-09 05:02 0000
app-backup/amanda-2.4.5 and app-backup/amanda-2.4.5_p1 create
"/etc/devfs.d/amanda". This should not be done at a kernel 2.6 system with
udev.
This confuses /sbin/modules-update.

------- Comment #1 From Robin Johnson 2006-06-11 02:47:57 0000 -------
Removing the devfs.d files would break installs that still use devfs (2.4
kernels, and some 2.6 users as well).

I'd call modules-update broken instead. Please include here your output that
shows how modules-update is breaking for you.

Steps to get the modules-update problem:
root# mkdir /etc/devfs.d
root# touch /etc/devfs.d/amanda
root# modules-update
 * Warning: the current /etc/modules.devfs has not been automatically generated
 * Use "modules-update force" to force (re)generation

root> root# modules-update force
 * Warning: the current /etc/modules.devfs has not been automatically generated
 * --force specified, (re)generating file anyway
 * Updating /etc/modules.conf ...
                                                     [ ok ] * Updating
/etc/modprobe.conf ...
                                         [ ok ] * Updating modules.dep ...

                    [ ok ]33 pc20170:/usr/portage/app-backup/amanda

But if I make another modules-update I always get the same warning/error. The
error message also apears at boot.

root# modules-update
 * Warning: the current /etc/modules.devfs has not been automatically generated
 * Use "modules-update force" to force (re)generation

Sorry that I didn't post 'emerge info', but I use the latest stable
baselayout (sys-apps/baselayout-1.12.0-r1).

And the problem is not solved yet:

27 pc20170:root# mkdir /etc/devfs.d
28 pc20170:root# touch /etc/devfs.d/amanda
29 pc20170:root# modules-update

 * generated
 * Use "modules-update force" to force (re)generation
30 pc20170:root# modules-update force
 * Warning: the current /etc/modules.devfs has not been automatically
 * generated
 * --force specified, (re)generating file anyway
 * Updating /etc/modules.conf ...
 * [ ok ] * Updating /etc/modprobe.conf ...
 * [ ok ] * Updating modules.dep ...
 * [ ok ]
