Hmm, could one of those who can reproduce provide me with the output of `equery l -i -f 'x11-.*/'` please?

I'm having this exact same problem. But not only does xspim seem to lock up and not accept clicks, the command-line version also locks up, even though it's using 99% of the processor. For instance, I enter 'spim -f file sample.s' Then I get the output: SPIM Version 7.0 of July 7, 2004 Copyright 1990-2004 by James R. Larus (larus@cs.wisc.edu). All Rights Reserved. See the file README for a full copyright notice. After which spim locks up. I think the xspim bug might be caused by this underlying bug.
Downgrade flex to 2.5.31-r2 and rebuild spim. Please let me know if that fixes the spim and xspim issue.
Yes.. that solves the bug with xpsim. Thanks Saleem.
Downgrading flex to 2.5.31-r2 solved the problem for spim-7.2.1-r3. spim-7.0 (x86 stable) would not compile with flex-2.5.31-r2 though.
I was having the same problem. I had flex-2.5.33-r1 and replaced it with 2.5.4a-r6 and then re-emerged spim-7.2.1-r3 and it worked.
*** Bug 130184 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
I can also report that upgrading to flex 2.5.33-r1 again, after emerging spim, does not seem to break anything. I.e. flex-2.5.31-r2 does only seem to be necessary at compile time.
I can confirm this, too. But I don't use modular X. I use: xorg-x11-6.8.2-r6

Upgrading to flex-2.5.4a-r6 fixed it for me. Must be strange interactions with just a couple versions of flex.
Created attachment 97929 [details, diff] update to ebuild for vers 7.3 upstream fixed this bug in vers 7.3 i updated the ebuild. the patches i removed (ptrsize, string-stream, multiple-exception, string-handling-fix) are allready included in this version.
(In reply to comment #17) > Created an attachment (id=97929) [edit] > update to ebuild for vers 7.3 ebuild vers 7.3 is not in portage. where can I find it?
The patch is against spim-7.2.1-r3.ebuild (as seen on the first line of the patch), which is in portage. So apply the patch to a copy of that file.
The version bump in portage should address this issue.
