My car won't go any more, fix it... Reopen with some information, we lack paranormal abilities, sorry.

I have the same problem, xspim starts, everything seems fine, but the controls don't work you can't do anything with the window really, not even select text areas.

Hmm, could one of those who can reproduce provide me with the output of `equery l -i -f 'x11-.*/'` please?

Comment 6 Hans Sjunnesson 2006-03-29 02:04:32 UTC
I'm having this exact same problem. But not only does xspim seem to lock up and not accept clicks, the command-line version also locks up, even though it's using 99% of the processor. For instance, I enter
'spim -f file sample.s'
Then I get the output:
SPIM Version 7.0 of July 7, 2004
Copyright 1990-2004 by James R. Larus (larus@cs.wisc.edu).
All Rights Reserved.
See the file README for a full copyright notice.

After which spim locks up. I think the xspim bug might be caused by this underlying bug.
Comment 7 Saleem Abdulrasool (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-03-29 08:50:49 UTC
Downgrade flex to 2.5.31-r2 and rebuild spim. Please let me know if that fixes the spim and xspim issue.
Comment 8 João Oliveirinha 2006-03-29 13:28:05 UTC
Yes.. that solves the bug with xpsim.

Thanks Saleem.
Comment 9 Pontus Ekberg 2006-04-05 06:57:45 UTC
Downgrading flex to 2.5.31-r2 solved the problem for spim-7.2.1-r3. spim-7.0 (x86 stable) would not compile with flex-2.5.31-r2 though.
Comment 10 Eric Anderson 2006-04-16 12:26:57 UTC
I was having the same problem. I had flex-2.5.33-r1 and replaced it with 2.5.4a-r6 and then re-emerged spim-7.2.1-r3 and it worked.

Comment 12 Pontus Ekberg 2006-04-17 08:18:21 UTC
I can also report that upgrading to flex 2.5.33-r1 again, after emerging spim, does not seem to break anything. I.e. flex-2.5.31-r2 does only seem to be necessary at compile time.
Comment 13 Torsten Grote 2006-05-03 13:04:02 UTC
I can confirm this, too. But I don't use modular X. I use: xorg-x11-6.8.2-r6

I cannot downgrade to flex 2.5.31-r2. Seems not to be in portage tree anymore.

# emerge -a =flex-2.5.31*

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies
emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "=flex-2.5.31*".

I was having the same problem. Upgrading to flex-2.5.4a-r6 fixed it for me. Must be strange interactions with just a couple versions of flex.

update to ebuild for vers 7.3

upstream fixed this bug in vers 7.3

i updated the ebuild. the patches i removed (ptrsize, string-stream, multiple-exception, string-handling-fix) are allready included in this version.

ebuild vers 7.3 is not in portage. where can I find it?
Comment 19 Eric Anderson 2006-09-25 10:18:46 UTC
The patch is against spim-7.2.1-r3.ebuild (as seen on the first line of the patch), which is in portage. So apply the patch to a copy of that file.
Comment 20 Saleem Abdulrasool (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-10-15 16:24:35 UTC
The version bump in portage should address this issue.
