does anyone know why 2.3.5 is not yet stable on x86 (at least)? This version
has been out for at least over a year and features java 1.5 support which is
useful. Thanks.

Awaiting a response for emacs developers to give approval for testing.

Please stabilze this for x86.  I believe the deps are already stablized.

I have been using jde 2.3.5 (not the r1, haven't tried that) for quite some
time now, it's OK for me...
