Description:   Opened: 2005-11-21 22:23 0000
The creation of /dev/mmcbk0p1 or whatever SD/MMC device should create a
managed fstab entry
the way it can automatically be used in kde or whereever.

Thank you a lot! Kudos.

Sorry, I have no clue whatsoever what are you talking about; ebuild name and
version? Or at least be a bit more verbose in your description?

------- Comment #2 From Thomas Bettler 2005-11-22 10:24:41 0000 -------
Oh, sorry. Indeed I was a bit short. I neither know which package is involved
exactly,
but I try to discribe it...

I got a MAXDATA 7000DX notebook with integrated MMC/SD-Card reader, wich
works fine with the winbond kernel module.
HOWTO on winbond: http://members.inode.at/g.schild/DIV/Winbond-howto.html

When I insert the SD-Card the devices /dev/mmcblk0{,p1} are created. mmcblk0
refers to the whole disk while mmcblk0p1 refers to the first partition. So I
assume udev
does it's part fine.
While the node is created no 'managed' entry in /etc/fstab is created (as for
other
hotpluggable media devices such as disks, usb flash disks, etc.) I suppose
either hal
or dbus lack support for mmc devices, but can't tell you the details, since
I've no clue.

Tell me how to find out more and I'll give it a try...

Ah, well. Yeah, you need some app to do this job, so what exactly are you using?
hal + pmount? Which versions then?

------- Comment #4 From Thomas Bettler 2005-11-22 10:36:28 0000 -------
Currently I am using these apps
[I--] [ ] sys-apps/hal-0.4.7-r2 (0)
[I--] [ ] sys-apps/dbus-0.23.4-r1 (0)
[I--] [ ] sys-fs/udev-070-r1 (0)
KDE-3.4 shows up with an icon on the desktop to mount it manually

Reopening and assigning to Gnome, maybe they'll be able to investigate it
further.

------- Comment #6 From Daniel Gryniewicz 2005-11-22 13:37:43 0000 -------
Gnome no longer uses managed fstab entries, it uses pmount. If you're not
running gnome (and therefore gnome-volume-manager), then gnome won't automount
for you. It would be up to KDE to automount under those circumstances.

------- Comment #7 From Marcus D. Hanwell 2005-11-27 08:46:17 0000 -------
Install pmount, and add yourself to the plugdev group then it should work as
expected.

------- Comment #8 From Thomas Bettler 2005-11-27 09:20:59 0000 -------
Do you know wether pmount will soon be the default for kde?
Does it work flawlessly with kde? Will it soon be x86 stable?
(I know, this might not the right place to ask such questions...)

Thank you for your help.
