The three packages should block each other, since they install /usr/bin/git.
git and cogito block already each other, and i don't seem to have a dev-util/coo ..?
For you Daniel ;) - app-misc/git, dev-util/git and dev-util/cogito
eh, the co{,git}o was indeed bull....

A note in the ebuild would have been nice...

assuming that a rename of the git executable before installing would not be an acceptable solution?
