1. /var/log/radius should be 6770 instead of 6775
2. /etc/init.d/radiusd:start() should contain "umask 0007" before "start-stop-daemon"

ok, forget 1. -- it was ok.

to 2.: the /var/log/radius/radiusd.log is root:radiusd and 0644 when not using "umask 0007" in the init script, thus radiusd fails to log to the file at the first restart

but if that's true, even at first start radiusd will fail to log anything in that file.

Right, radiusd cannot log anything due to the wrong onwership settings

fixed in freeradius-1.0.2-r1
also, now startup.log is created in /var/log/radius instead of current directory.
