Bug#: 75207 Product:  Gentoo Linux Version: unspecified Platform: All

Opened: 2004-12-21 09:38 0000
Description:   Opened: 2004-12-21 09:38 0000
gnome-system-monitor 2.8.1 does not distinguish application memory and buffer
memory and as a result shows a constantly maximum memory curve. It is supposed
to show only app memory , as app+caches always sum up to all the mem available.
I have attached a screenshot. At the same time:

obelix@localhost ~ $ free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 1010 993 17 0 197 509
-/+ buffers/cache: 286 724
Swap: 737 0 737

As you see half of the memory is caches.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.run gnome-system-monitor
2.
3.

Actual Results:
it shows me the memory used by apps+caches

Expected Results:
It is supposed to show app memory only

Kernel is 2.6.10-rc3 if it matters.

This problem was suposed to have been fixed a while ago, but either it wasn't,
changes got reverted, or it has just stopped working for some reason.

Here is the upstream bug:
