from gnome-terminal 2.4.x (and perhaps before) to 2.8.x, i had a bug with gnome-terminal, which comes from a bug in vte

it is fully explained there :

a patch is also available at the same place

it seems that vte is quite unmaintained and this patch won't make it upstream for a long time. it has already been applied in Fedora and perhaps all debian based distros.

2.7.3 atleast has this problem, and seems to be the last version that is not masked.

added to vte-0.11.11-r3 . I can't rep the problem so I'm going to assume this fixes it.
