Please try reverting "2705_fix-intel-acpi.patch" from the genpatches tarball. Editing ebuild of gentoo-dev-sources-2.6.8-r7 to add 2705_fix-intel-acpi.patch to UNIPATCH_EXCLUDE fixed it. I am seeing differences in my dmesg dont know if that matters. Its interesting to note that after removing the patch kernel doesnt seem to renable APIC. It finds it broken in the new kernel but in the old kernel it would enable it. I dont think that matters to me as long as my system doesnt freeze. --- dmesg.out 2004-10-08 14:37:13.231886200 -0400 +++ dmesg.out_acpi_broken 2004-10-08 13:24:46.000000000 -0400 @@ -1,4 +1,4 @@ -Linux version 2.6.8-gentoo-r7 (root@eos) (gcc version 3.3.4 20040623 (Gentoo Li nux 3.3.4-r1, ssp-3.3.2-2, pie-8.7.6)) #1 Fri Oct 8 13:39:27 EDT 2004 +Linux version 2.6.8-gentoo-r7 (root@eos) (gcc version 3.3.4 20040623 (Gentoo Li nux 3.3.4-r1, ssp-3.3.2-2, pie-8.7.6)) #1 Fri Oct 8 01:18:05 EDT 2004 BIOS-provided physical RAM map: BIOS-e820: 0000000000000000 - 000000000009f000 (usable) BIOS-e820: 000000000009f000 - 00000000000a0000 (reserved) @@ -12,7 +12,6 @@ Normal zone: 126894 pages, LIFO batch:16 HighMem zone: 0 pages, LIFO batch:1 DMI 2.3 present. -Dell Inspiron with broken BIOS detected. I'd be grateful for feedback on my last comment, reproduced here: Ok, thanks for the test. Is there any chance you could test development-sources-2.6.9-rc3? That patch which you excluded was actually an upstream "fix" pulled from the 2.6.9 tree. I'd be interested to know if you run into the same issue on that kernel. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of 66613 *** |
