I use gensplash (splashutils-0.9_pre07 and gentoo-dev-source 2.6.8-r1) and it's not working, because it cannot find fbset and splash_util doesnt find libpng.so.3/libjpeg.so.62.
My /usr directory is on a seperate partition and at the time gensplash looks for fbset etc. it isn't mounted. I moved those 3 missing files to /bin and /lib and gensplash starts working.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. have /usr on an extra partition
2. boot
3. see no splash :(

Please check out 0.9-pre08, it should work.
