There is a new version (4.61) of Pine available. The chappa all patch also
contains a few imporatant bug fixes/new features for the maildir driver. I
don't know the status in the current patch for 4.60 concerning these issues.

Ebuild for pine-4.61

This ebuild also installs the mailutil tool as requested in bug 53499. Please
also note that bug 44349 is fixed as of the pine 4.60 ebuild.
