On uClibc based systems, the spawn.h header is unimplemented, making it impossible to use syslog-ng the way it is.  There is a configure option (--with/--without-librabbitmq-client) that could prevent the code that requires spawn.h from being compiled and give us uClibc users access to syslog-ng.

Is it feasible to make this optional via a USE flag?

in portage.  resync and it should be hidden behind the amqp use flag.

Compiled and running now on RPi with uClibc-0.9.33.2-r8
