currently the default tmp directory is /tmp (shown by jackd -V)
It would be better to have it in a separate directory under /tmp that can be mounted as tmpfs to ram, /tmp/jack for instance.

Or /dev/shm, but everybody don't have this, hence /tmp/jack is better

The reason is that jackd works better when the temp files are not in hard disk.

((Or would be even better if Gentoo used some env variable, like CONFIG="--with-default-tmpdir=/dev/shm", which would be passed to ./configure at build. Then I wouldn't have to file this feature request))

squinky86: could you try out
--with-default-tmpdir=/var/tmp/jack  Make sure jack will create its temp dir if it does not exist.

I won't be able to get to this for a few weeks =(

USE="jack-tmpfs" for the /dev/shm thing;

jack does not want to create a temp directory if it does not exist :(

jack-audio-connection-kit-0.98.1-r1 now addresses this issue, thanks for the bug report!
