x11-wm/sawfish fails on my friend's brand new gentoo, error like this:

   sawfish-1.9.1/src/fonts.c:519: undefined reference to `pango_x_render' 

after "emerge x11-libs/pangox-compat", sawfish build successfully, so
I am sure this a missing dependency.
