Current ghc-6.12 is ancient.
What is in the overlay as recent is bleeding edge (7.6) and is still having bugs (for example some stuff with FFI is broken)

Current 7.4.2 is what is provided as haskell platform (http://www.haskell.org/platform/) and supported by upstream.
