It seems that patch from bug #454108 does not fix the problem completely. With  x11-libs/cairo-1.12.10-r1 I have icons corruption in nautilus (very similar to described in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=156457). Downgrade up to x11-libs/cairo-1.12.8 fixes the problem.

I can confirm this in both Thunar (as mentioned in bug 454208) as well as in gimp-2.8.2-r1 (I haven't tried it in other versions, but I would assume it's the same)

And report back whether it makes a difference?

With patched x11-libs/cairo-1.12.10-r1 I cannot reproduce the bug.
