Description tokiclover 2012-04-18 10:50:08 UTC
Since sys-boot/grub-2_beta0 release, meny entries cannot be edited anymore because it end up with gibberish. At first I thought it was the length of the lines introduced with the beta release cycle but after editing grub.cfg to remove unecessary stuff (the if...fi for root partion search which is quite lengthy) it did not do the trick. And this quite crippling!

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install sys-boot/grub-2_beta* and setup grub:2
2. reboot
3. unable to edit menu entries

Same here, and it seems people in archlinux have exactly the same problem
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=138973

beta0 is working, beta2 not; I did not try yet with beta1.
Perhaps it breaks only with certain USE cominations.
I tried to do minimal: Only USE="custom-flags sdl" is set here,
in particular, USE=-truetype which apparently forbids
terminal_output gfxterm
(otherwise screen would be unreadable).
Perhaps it is only the basic editor with default terminal which is broken.

I have been told this should be fixed in beta4 once upstream releases it. If anyone wants to backport and test the patch for that, I will do a beta3-r2 bump. Otherwise, I'm waiting on upstream.

Should be fixed in beta5.
