There is a new version of the 1.0 releases: 1.0.10

The current gentoo tree has version 1.0.6 of the this (stable?) series.

The changelog of 1.0.10 is not 'impressive', however 1.0.8 mentions a security issue (along with other fixes):

And since the 1.1 series won't even start for me (and maybe others?), I guess this is the best option for now.
