You don't say what kernel you are trying to use. Also could you try running genkernel --menuconfig and disable any stuff you don't need. That will tell us if it some bad module. The kernel 9s 2.4.22-gentoo-r5 the state 2 tarball installed is stage2-athlon-xp-20030910.tar.bz2 genkernel version v3.0.1_beta6 a genkernal all ends with the line: gendie(): compile of modules failed I haven't tried the --menuconfig yet. I tried a make menuconfig on a previous attempt, installed using lilo, and followed the directions and ended up with a kernal panic at or near the partition check. /boot was ext2, all the rest were reiser. I redid the attempt and remade the partitions as ext3. (tared up the systm, mke2fs, untar) as I've never used reiser before and thought that might be the problem. === I ran with --menuconfig, only change was to set the cpu type to athlon-xp the modules phase complains about the following missing files/directories: /lib/modules/2.4.22-gentoo-r5/... ds.o pcmcia Sym53c8xx.o Sym53c8xx_2 I continued and tried to install lilo. I did emeerge -k lilo and got the following error: boot.c: In function "boot_image" boot.c:76: 'PAGE_SIZE' undeclared I have the system up on a custom kernel and grub from cd /usr/src/linux and make menuconfig method. The genkernel gnerated kernel can't find the the root device STEP 4: root block dev unspecified or not detected. I can provide an account/access to the system via ssh if this would help as the machine has a static IP, though no name service entries at this time. if you still experience this with the newest release, please re-open the bug. many thanks for taking your time to log this. Moving these so we can remove the "Install CD" component from "Gentoo Linux". I apologize to everyone for this spam, but according to the bugzilla developers, this is the only reasonable way to do this. |
