Description brankob 2010-06-09 10:13:38 UTC
Once I change key name for server administration ( via rndc -k keyname), /etc/init.d/named stop fails to kill server.

Reason for this is that it checks for variable KEY which is preset to default /etc/bind/rndc.conf and I can't override that in /etc/conf.d/named

Once I changed variable name to KEY2 and used that in /etc/conf.d/named, everything seems to be working fine...

Reproducible: Always

Which versions of bind are affected?

I't s not a matter of anything in bind per se, but in Gentoo's init scripts.

I remeber ahving this problem with 9.4* and now with 9.6*

There is now a RNDC_KEY variable in /etc/conf.d/named if you re- sync/emerge bind 9.6.x or 9.7.x so that should solve your problem.
