Maybe these newer gcc versions are again stricter wrt included headers? I had to add libssh/string.h includes to two files to get the type defined and libssh compiling with gcc 4.4.3 on an amd64.
I don't know if upstream will like a patch like this. They might already have this fixed, as their pace of development for 0.5.0 branch has changed their tree and code quite considerably.
