While using the utility gdaladdo from the GDAL package, I have hit the bug described at : http://trac.osgeo.org/gdal/ticket/2486
In fact, the bug is located in the libtiff-3.8 library, installed by portage. The GDAL ebuilds should add a dependence on >=media-libs/tiff-3.9.1

This bug depends on bug http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=285285

Fixed, but requires latest ~arch version of both gdal and tiff.  Need to get libtiff stable first, then gdal.
