There are still more entries in .xsession:** (gnome-settings-daemon:8761): WARNING **: Failed to acquire org.gnome.SettingsDaemon ** (gnome-settings-daemon:8761): WARNING **: Could not acquire name Unbekannte Option --singleton Run 'bluetooth-applet --help' to see a full list of available command line options. Failed to play sound: Sound disabled Same bug here - gnome-desktop loads, apps start (without windowmanager, so not usable), but it takes about 1 minute until gnome-panel, metacity and everything loads. I have the same log-output as Juergen. Other sideeffect which could be possibly from this bug, aside from the 1-minute-wait: * no "shutdown / reboot" available, only logout / lock. If you need anything else to help fix this very annoying bug, I'll gladly help. simply missing gnome-session. It's a pure runtime dep, that's why we didn't figure it out before. I just copied gnome-base/gnome-session-2.26.1-r2 from the gnome overlay to a local overlay, and emerged it. That fixed the issue for me :) So, stuff needs the dbus interface of gnome-session.. other things will break in weird ways too. We need to get gnome-session 2.26.1 in-tree. Upping priority and severity. (In reply to comment #5) > So, stuff needs the dbus interface of gnome-session.. other things will break > in weird ways too. Please test and get back to us (do attach before and after for .xsession-errors). Thanks. gnome-session-2.26.1 fixed these problems for me. Attaching xsession files next. .xsession-errors file after update
Hi, Thanks for adding gnome-session-2.26. I updated yesterday and it does more or less work: No delay on startup anymore. However: * I get no gnome "theme" on startup. Meaning: Everything looks really "oldschool". And my keyboard-layout is US (wrong). If I start System=>Preferences=>Appearance, the "beautiful" window layout and my keyboard layout get loaded. But it does not happen automatically anymore. No idea why. * The brightness-settings applet somehow does not work anymore (it did work with the "broken" old gnome session yesterday) The new .xsession-error is below: /etc/X11/gdm/Xsession: Beginning session setup... which: no keychain in (/usr/local/bin:/usr/bin:/bin:/opt/bin:/usr/i486-pc-linux-gnu/gcc-bin/4.1.2:/usr/i686-pc-linux-gnu/gcc-bin/4.3.3:/usr/games/bin) /etc/X11/gdm/Xsession: Setup done, will execute: /usr/bin/seahorse-agent --execute gnome-session gnome-session[5828]: WARNING: Could not parse desktop file /home/patrik/.config/autostart/nm-applet.desktop: Key file does not have key 'Exec' gnome-session[5828]: WARNING: could not read /home/patrik/.config/autostart/nm-applet.desktop Window manager warning: Failed to read saved session file /home/patrik/.config/metacity/sessions/10442a4a0656e53ed6124229850739164900000058280020.ms: Failed to open file '/home/patrik/.config/metacity/sessions/10442a4a0656e53ed6124229850739164900000058280020.ms': No such file or directory one other thing: "shutdown/restart" reappeared in the menu, but "standby" is still not in the menu anymore. :( deleted all ~/.config*, ~/.gnome* and basically all user settings, and restarted with a plain unconfigured gnome, and re-set all configuration options. Very inconvenient, but everything is fine again now. I do think there's still something wrong with the gnome-session. After updating few gnome packages today, namely these: Thu May 14 16:10:12 2009 >>> media-plugins/gst-plugins-meta-0.10-r3 Thu May 14 16:11:39 2009 >>> dev-python/gst-python-0.10.15-r1 Thu May 14 16:13:44 2009 >>> sys-apps/hal-0.5.12_rc1-r4 Thu May 14 16:15:27 2009 >>> gnome-base/gnome-keyring-2.26.1-r1 Thu May 14 16:15:54 2009 >>> net-libs/telepathy-farsight-0.0.7 Thu May 14 16:20:00 2009 >>> gnome-base/nautilus-2.26.2-r1 Thu May 14 16:23:04 2009 >>> app-crypt/seahorse-2.26.1 Thu May 14 16:25:06 2009 >>> app-cdr/brasero-2.26.1-r1 After these updates, Every time I login, I get an error message stating that "There is a problem with the configuration server. (/usr/libexec/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)". There is also new kind of errors in .xsession-errors file which to me seem to be related to gnome-session and dbus. For the diagnostics I made a new clean user to get rid of irrelevant errors and logged in with that. I'm attaching new .xsession-errors file and my emerge --info. I also checked the exit status of gconf-sanity-check-2 by running: usr/libexec/gconf-sanity-check-2 ; echo $? This gave me exit code 0. I hope this helps. :) Created attachment 191267 [details]

(In reply to comment #13) > After these updates, Every time I login, I get an error message stating that > "There is a problem with the configuration server. > (/usr/libexec/gconf-sanity-check-2 exited with status 256)". this is solved by reinstalling gconf-2.26. gnome-session has been commited and note has been taken for the migration guide, for other issues please fill separate bugs, thanks.
