Please attach the output of a gdb backtrace. Hi Jeroen, if I eselect the xorg-x11 opengl system the Segmentation fault disapears. But googleearth makes not really fun with xorg-x11 opengl. I do not really know, how can I generate the gdb backtrace. On a system with installed nvidia drivers I tried the following: root@condor:/root(49)# eselect opengl list Available OpenGL implementations: [1] nvidia * [2] xorg-x11 root@condor:/root(50)# gdb bluetooth-analyzer GNU gdb 6.8 Copyright (C) 2008 Free Software Foundation, Inc. License GPLv3+: GNU GPL version 3 or later <http://gnu.org/licenses/gpl.html> This is free software: you are free to change and redistribute it. There is NO WARRANTY, to the extent permitted by law. Type "show copying" and "show warranty" for details. This GDB was configured as "x86_64-pc-linux-gnu"... (no debugging symbols found) (gdb) run Starting program: /usr/bin/bluetooth-analyzer Program terminated with signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. The program no longer exists. You can't do that without a process to debug. (gdb) bt 3 No stack. (gdb) quit Then I set CFLAGS="-march=nocona -O2 -ggdb -pipe" and FEATURES="fixpackages splitdebug" in /etc/make.conf and reemerge the bluez-gnome and nvidia-drivers. And did again: root@condor:/root(66)# gdb /usr/bin/bluetooth-analyzer GNU gdb 6.8 Copyright (C) 2008 Free Software Foundation, Inc. (gdb) run Starting program: /usr/bin/bluetooth-analyzer Program terminated with signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. The program no longer exists. You can't do that without a process to debug. (gdb) set logging file backtrace.log (gdb) set logging on Copying output to backtrace.log. (gdb) bt No stack. (gdb) run Starting program: /usr/bin/bluetooth-analyzer Program terminated with signal SIGSEGV, Segmentation fault. The program no longer exists. You can't do that without a process to debug. (gdb) bt No stack. (gdb) quit In backtrace.log I find the same information as above. What can I else do? Do you have x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-180.35 installed? If yes, add that version to your package.mask, downgrade and it should work again. If not, please try to unmask net-wireless/bluez and net-wireless/bluez-gnome, uninstall net-wireless/bluez-{libs,utils} and update bluez-gnome. See bug #260441 as an explanation for the above ideas :-\ I get the same problem with 180.37, downgrading to 180.29 "fixes" this, then, I think that is different problem, as 180.37 doesn't seem to exhibit the other 180.35 problems Same problem for me with 180.44 emerge --info Portage 2.1.6.11 (default/linux/x86/2008.0/desktop, gcc-4.3.2, glibc-2.8_p20080602-r1, 2.6.27-gentoo-r8 i686) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.27-gentoo-r8-i686-AMD_Athlon-tm-_XP_2600+-with-glibc2.0 Timestamp of tree: Thu, 09 Apr 2009 16:45:03 +0000 ccache version 2.4 [enabled] app-shells/bash: 3.2_p39 dev-java/java-config: 2.1.7 dev-lang/python: 2.5.2-r7 dev-util/ccache: 2.4-r7 dev-util/cmake: 2.6.2-r1 sys-apps/baselayout: 2.0.0 sys-apps/openrc: 0.4.3-r1 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.2.18.1-r2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.63 sys-devel/automake: 1.5, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.0-r4 sys-devel/libtool: 1.5.26 virtual/os-headers: 2.6.27-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/config /var/lib/hsqldb" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/gentoo-release /etc/php/apache2-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cgi-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cli-php5/ext-active/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/splash /etc/terminfo /etc/texmf/language.dat.d /etc/texmf/language.def.d /etc/texmf/updmap.d /etc/texmf/web2c /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=athlon-xp -O2 -pipe -fomit-frame-pointer" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="candy ccache distlocks fixpackages parallel-fetch protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://mirror.ovh.net/gentoo-distfiles/" LANG="fr_FR.UTF-8" LC_ALL="fr_FR.UTF-8" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" LINGUAS="fr" MAKEOPTS="-j2" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/portage/local/layman/roslin /usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.europe.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="3dnow 3dnowext X a52 aac aalib alsa apache2 asf avi berkdb bluetooth bonobo branding bzip2 cairo cdparanoia cdr cli cracklib crypt cups curl dbus divx4linux dri dts dvd dvdr dvdread eds emboss encode esd evo exif expat ffmpeg firefox flac font-server foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gimp gimpprint glitz gmp gnome gnutls gphoto2 gpm gstreamer gtk gtk2 gtkhtml guile hal howl iconv idn imagemagick imlib ipv6 isdnlog java jpeg keyring lame lcms libnotify libsamplerate mad matroska midi mikmod mjpeg mmx mmxext mng motif mp3 mpeg mplayer mudflap musepack mysql nautilus ncurses nls nptl nptlonly nsplugin nvidia ogg openal opengl openmp pam pcre pdf perl png ppds pppd python qt3 qt3support qt4 quicktime readline reflection scanner sdl session sox spell spl sse ssl startup-notification svg sysfs tcltk tcpd theora tiff truetype unicode usb v4l v4l2 vcd vorbis win32codecs x264 x86 xcb xine xml xml2 xorg xulrunner xv xvid zlib" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1 emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic auth_digest authn_anon authn_dbd authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock dbd deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers ident imagemap include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation proxy proxy_ajp proxy_balancer proxy_connect proxy_http rewrite setenvif so speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="keyboard mouse evdev" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="fr" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="nvidia vesa" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS And with nvidia-drivers-185.13 too. *** Bug 266895 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** Same here, with 185.13 from zugaina overlay. It's not outdated; it's maintained and its last stable release was this past October. gnome-bluetooth is just a fork of bluez-gnome with missing functionality (bluetooth-analyzer and bluetooth-proximity). I was fine until installing compiz, then wierd things started happening. I managed to find a forum post, which I cannot find again, stating that the glitz use flag is part of the problem. A user there managed to change the compiz ebuild to not use glitz, and whoop di doo everything worked just fine. LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/opengl/xorg-x11/lib/libGL.so bluetooth-applet as workaround (found in http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=130654) I temporally updated to bluez-4 and latest bluez-gnome (in testing) and it fixed the problem, then, I think that this will be fixed when bluez-4 stuff hits stable *** Bug 267190 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** you may try net-wireless/gnome-bluetooth:2 (In reply to comment #18) > you may try net-wireless/gnome-bluetooth:2 > Read through the bug report (specifically comments #12 & #13) We use bluez-gnome because it has features not present in gnome-bluetooth (i.e. bluetooth analyzer). Same on x86...LD_PRELOADing works, though.

Ok for me, but I am still waiting for reasons to keep bluez-gnome in the tree instead of masking for removal it (like most distributions have already do) :-) I will mask bluez-gnome for removal next week if nobody disagrees Couldn't wait two full month and nobody complained in the standard time.
