should be fine, what do you think luca?
quick note, I get the following errors when attempting to compile
media-gfx/blender-2.48a-r3 with media-video/ffmpeg-0.4.9_p20081014:
SND_OpenALDevice.o): In function `SND_OpenALDevice::LoadSample(STR_String
const&, void*, int)':
SND_OpenALDevice.cpp:(.text+0x98c): undefined reference to `alutLoadWAVMemory'
SND_OpenALDevice.cpp:(.text+0xa22): undefined reference to `alutUnloadWAV'
SND_OpenALDevice.cpp:(.text+0xa8a): undefined reference to `alutLoadWAVFile'
/usr/lib/libopenal.so: undefined reference to `_alMMXmemcpy'
/usr/lib/libopenal.so: undefined reference to `_alDetectx86CPUCaps'
/usr/lib/libopenal.so: undefined reference to `__alMMXmemcpy'
/usr/lib/libopenal.so: undefined reference to `__alDetectx86CPUCaps'
Also, there were quite a number of warnings for:
cc1plus: warning: command line option "-Wdeclaration-after-statement" is valid
for C/ObjC but not for C++

try rebuilding media-libs/openal and media-libs/freealut, if blender still
fails to build, please open a new bug report with the complete buildlog
attached and the output of emerge -pv blender (and of course emerge --info).
thanks
Markus,
Sorry for the delay, I've been out in the field on an ecological survey, but I
just figured out the problem...
Blender-2.48a-r3 and freealut-1.1.0 both require media-libs/openal-1.5.304. If
not built with 1.5.304, they give linker errors with undefined references to
`_alMMXmemcpy', etc.
I think that a simple addition to the RDEPEND's openal to require version >
1.50, or some such...
Thanks again for your suggestions,

I'm hitting this too. Seems new openal is the solution, but does it work with
all the rdeps?
http://tinderbox.dev.gentoo.org/misc/rindex/media-libs/openal
I'm checking this fact out now, if it's OK i'll do both for x86.
x86 stable for both blender and openal, scorched3d is broken with new openal
but has an easy solution in bug 245797.
ppc, ppc64: If you have issues with OpenAL please remove the x86? () from
Blender ebuild, but as it is now.. you don't even have it keyworded, bug
245771.
I have marked sparc stable even though you didn't ask for it. I don't know why
sparc didn't have a stable version of blender (blender has worked on sparc for
years).
ppc stable. closing since we're last
