in bug #187841 the configuration file was made root:ssmtp. The same group
should be applied to the binary itself so you shouldn't have to wonder why this
happens all of a sudden:

betelgeuse@pena ~ $ sendmail praty@cc.hut.fi
Subject: Test
test
.

sendmail: Cannot open mailhub:25

Fixed in 2.62-r1.
