As portage's stable version of tor is still 0.2.17 I tried out a very simple workaround: 1. Copy /usr/portage/net-misc/tor/tor-0.1.2.17.ebuild to /usr/portage/net-misc/tor/tor-0.1.2.18.ebuild 2. run "ebuild /usr/portage/net-misc/tor/tor-0.1.2.18.ebuild digest" as root After that I could emerge net/misc-tor-0.2.18 (compiles, installs and seems to work without any problems on AMD64, 2.6.24-rc6 kernel).
