------- Comment #1 From Christian Heim (RETIRED) 2007-08-27 17:23:15 0000 -------
Here's the situation:

 - apache-2.0.59-r3 is basically fucked up (sorry for the wording, it is -- I
forgot to backport ebuild changes that were needed in order to preserve the
functionality -- bug #189916)
 - apache-2.0.59-r4 ain't much better, since I backported the configurations
from 2.2 and completely forgot about the headers (they mention 2.2 all over the
place)

So I'd like to propose this:
 - completely forget 2.0.x and move on to 2.2.4, which has been out in the
world since January.

There are few better ways to unexpectedly f**k a whole lot
of our users from behind...
Pardon my wording, but this is just ridiculous.
Due to some major f**kup on our side we do now push users to a greatly
newer and thus differing version they perhaps do not want to use or just
don't have the time to work into the changes right now?
Am I right in anticipating that all of *your own* apache installations
are already at 2.2 since weeks or months? ;>
What was that slogan again? "Gentoo -- it's all about choice"?
It currently feels like "it's all about f**kups" and "it's all about us
devs not caring about you users" :-(
Please notice that I don't have such a big problem with the f**kup itself
(it happens all the time, sadly) but the non-existant solution to this.

Please, Christian, think this over again and come up with something sane
as I was really expecting from you in the first place :) Thanks!

Removing arch CCs until this issue is resolved within the Apache team

> Removing arch CCs until this issue is resolved within the Apache team

Option 1: move this discussion to a separate bug (2.0* removal/fix) and readd
arches to CC.

Option 2: relabel this bug and open another stabilisation bug for 2.2*.

Kind regards,
     JeR

noone is forced to install newer versions. besides, there are no big changes
from apache 2.0 -> 2.2, except that we have split configuration, but again,
noone is forced to use our default configuration...

------- Comment #6 From Benedikt Böhm 2007-08-28 08:03:00 0000 -------
i have reverted all of phreaks config backports, have removed the broken
ebuilds, and added 2.0.59-r5 to the tree, which is just -r2 with the CVE
patches. So, now, please stabilize 2.0.59-r5 and 2.2.4-r12, thanks.

------- Comment #7 From Jeroen Roovers 2007-08-30 10:59:44 0000 -------
Could you backport apache2.initd as well. The one from 2.0.59-r5 doesn't work
properly and a diff shows that the one from 2.0.58-r2 might be newer (or at
least enhanced).

------- Comment #8 From Jeroen Roovers 2007-08-30 15:48:02 0000 -------
www-servers/apache-2.2* also pdepends on app-admin/apache-tools which went
~arch all by itself.

------- Comment #9 From Angelo Arrifano 2007-08-30 21:05:40 0000 -------
www-servers/apache-2.0.59-r5 USE="apache2 ssl threads -debug -doc -ldap
-mpm-itk -mpm-leader -mpm-peruser -mpm-prefork -mpm-threadpool -mpm-worker
(-selinux) -static-modules"

1. Emerges on AMD64.
2. No collisions etc..
3. Tested with my php website using a mysql database.

------- Comment #10 From Chris Gianelloni (RETIRED) 2007-08-31 17:40:50 0000 -------
www-servers/apache-2.0.59-r5 stable on amd64/x86...

I left the 2.2 ebuild alone, since I don't use this and didn't have time to
test it with the configuration changes... leaving amd64/x86 on CC for the newer
apache version...

--- x86 / amd64 ---

app-admin/apache-tools-2.2.4-r4

2: passes collision-protect, (multilib-)strict, test (collision-protect, test
not included in the x86 FEATURES)
3: works (static pages, userbased authentication, viewvc, squirrelmail,

www-servers/apache-2.0.59-r5 depends on apache-tools as well now (better don't
ask :P); please keep this in mind when stabilizing.
