The bluez-kernel ebuild is as of 2.4.20 (? possible 2.4.x) deprecated, so this
should _clearly_ be displayed in the description string for bluez-kernel. Ive
attached ebuilds which bumps the version numbering on the other bluez ebuilds
you need, and removed the bluez-kernel dependancy.
Cheers!
Umm, it seems that the current gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r2 doesnt have the rfcomm
module patch, which - if im not mistaking - renders bluetooth support on Gentoo
completely broken. (No matter if youre using the old or new setup)
Ok, another update. It seems that the latest kernel patch:
http://www.holtmann.org/linux/kernel/patch-2.4.20-mh6.gz
applies cleanly and works. This patch incorporates what is in 2.4.21_pre6 at least, and will probably be safe to merge in gentoo-2.4.20-r3. Even if something does go wrong, it sure beats the current situation where everything is broken wheater you use the old or new approach :-)
Cheers!
thanks. i'll take a look.
Jay
Im successfully using my approach to mount my Nokia 7650 over NFS using
bluetooth. Everything seems quite stable and play along nicely.
Here is a functional /etc/init.d/bluetooth script that loads the required
user-land apps to use bluetooth on 'boot'. It depends on the bluez-utils and
bluez-sdp ebuilds (attached to this bug, or in portage tree).
Note that you'll still need the rfcomm patch, also listed in this bug, but not
included with gentoo as of yet.
k, i've add the bluetooth patch below to my internal sources. should be in the
mainstream on
the next bump. gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r3
Jay
this patch is in gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r3 which is now in portage.
Jay
latexer... do you want to look @ these ebuilds & version bump? i've added the
requested
kernel portion to gentoo-sources.
Jay
i've commit the ebuild for bluez-{libs,sdp,utils,pan} to reflect the latest
released.
jay: soon as gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r3 is unmasked, i'll unmask the latest
version of all these bluetooth related ebuilds. I don't want to unmask this til
there's native support in the gentoo kernel for this stuff though.
eric: i'll add a -r1 of the utils ebuild including the init script once i hear
back from that email i sent you.
I just unmasked these ebuilds, now that gentoo-sources-2.4.20-r4 is out the
door. *please* test this for me and report success/failures as i have no
bluetooth hardware currently to test on.
ok... i think enough time has passed and would be safe to say the request in
this bug has been fulfilled.
