This fixes a 100% CPU load bug and some minor enhancements.  Thanks.

x86 stable

Test plan:

1) start emacs
2) Press M-x (= Alt + x)
3) type in eieio-browse
4) leave with C-x C-c (= Ctrl + x, Ctrl + c)

If a window with a tree-like display appears, it should be fine to stabilise
